Fake invoice scams…

I’m signing bills to authorize checks, and came across one that almost slipped through the system. "Trademark Info Corp." wants $596 to list our registered trademark in their "Register of Protected Trademarks". In other words, they send everyone with a registered trademark a copy of their own trademark from the USPTO records and offer to post it in their directory at www.trademark-info.net for a fee.

The form looks as official as can be, and comes with a payment stub requesting you put a registration number on the check, etc. Deep in the all-caps, gray-ink fine print it does, however, point out that "This publication is an elective service and does not substitue for registration nor prolong the validity of this trademark with the the U.S.P.T.O."

A law firm suggest "It’s likely not worth your money." No kidding.
